Franciscan Christmas Mission in Colombia

Between the 10th and 27th of December, 2023, six friars and a Franciscan sister spent the Christmas season with some communities in the Municipality of Puerto Leguizamo. During this Christmas apostolate led by the “Laudato Si” Movement, 150 indigenous, farmers and Afro people participated in various religious activities and shared their ancestral wisdom. This mission is one of the activities that seeks to consolidate the Ministries of the “Common Home” in the Colombian Amazon and to safeguard the culture of the inhabitants of the forest.

The Franciscan Family of Central America held its General Assembly on the 25th and 26th of August, 2023 at the Monte Alvernia Retreat House, San Salvador, El Salvador. fr. Daniel Rodríguez Blanco, Director of the JPIC General Office, was invited to share the work carried out by this Office and, specifically, on the Franciscan Network for Migrants of the Americas (FNM).

On Tuesday 1st August, the Patriarch of Lisbon, H.E. Card. Manuel Clemente, celebrated the Holy Opening Mass of the XXXVII World Youth Day, which takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, until 6th August. Thousands of young people from all over the world took part, gathered at Parco Edoardo VII; as part of the Integral Ecology program, 40 Friars Minor from many parts of the world have taken care of the Park and the gardens it contains.

From 26-28 April 2023, in the Friary of St Mary of the Angels on the island of Visovac in Croatia, the Secretary General for Missions and Evangelisation, the Secretary General for Formation and Studies and the General Office for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation, in collaboration with the President of the Conference, Br Marko Mrše, and in the presence of the General Definitor responsible for this Conference, Br Konrad Cholewa, organised the meeting of all the respective offices of the Provinces of this Conference.

The three-day meeting (26-28 April 2023) of the Order’s animation Offices – Secretary General for Formation and Studies, Secretariat for Missions and Evangelisation and Justice Peace and Integration of Creation – with their counterparts from the South Slavic Conference concluded with an educational trip to Krka National Park, Visovac Island in Croatia, in the presence of the President of the South Slavic Conference, Br Marko Mrše and the Definitor General, Br Konrad Cholewa.

The Second Special Autonomy and the New Autonomous Region (DOB) were enacted by Indonesian government as new policy for West Papua, Indonesia, throughout 2022. These were drawn attention from other parties because that policy created more divisions in the middle of pro and contra, including how to establish where will be the administrative capital city.
